2022- 6th blog: English language challenges
The truth is that my experience with English during my university years has been very complex. My first experience was during the pandemic, the second also (where I failed the course) and the third, where I am now, I realize that I had previously taken English that did not correspond to me, damaging the progress of my curriculum.
Both in the previous experiences and in this one, the blogs are something that I enjoy very much, however, it usually happens to me that I can't organize my time well and I end up doing them all together, when in fact, I could have done them little by little. Anyway, I like to be able to think and present things that I like (practically obvious :p).
Listening to and understanding English is something I struggle with, but mainly because I am not exposed to nor do I constantly practice the language, so I think with practice I could easily improve it. On the other hand, both writing and speaking is something that I need to strengthen. I lack a lot of vocabulary and even remember some linguistic/grammatical content.
I think I can improve these aspects, some of which are more difficult for me than others, by practicing and exposing myself to English, getting closer to it (because lately I have moved away from it for different reasons), for example, listening to music in English, reading its lyrics, watching movies in their original language with subtitles, reading children's books in English (because of its simplicity and because i love it), etc.
As I mentioned, I have moved away from English quite a bit. I had a bad experience in school all my life, and it wasn't until my first year of high school that different teachers managed to charm me, making me participate in English. However, after leaving school, English was not a daily thing, and in the university I did not have the course until my second year of the programme, so it was many years without practicing until today.
If I relate to English in any way, it is in a particular way, for example, trying to translate memes or tik toks, although there are cases in which (minimal, but they happen) I have to read academic articles or get information from platforms in English, for my programme.
